TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno said that the Likupang Special Economic Zone (SEZ) for Tourism will attract an investment of Rp5 trillion until 2040. Currently, he claimed, a number of investors have lined up to enter the super-priority destination.

"The investments to support the international standard tourism industry and service activities in the Likupang SEZ will create new jobs for 65,300 workers," Sandiaga said after attending the Tempo BNI Bilateral Forum at The Langham in Jakarta, Thursday, May 12.

Sandiaga said several companies have pledged to invest in Likupang. One of them is PT Artha Prakarana, which is committed to investing Rp70 billion in the resort and beach club business.

There is also the Maestro & Partner and Dune World that will build luxury resorts, as well as the Sejuta Rasa Carpedia, which is planning to build a beach club.

The former Jakarta deputy governor said that Likupang, the northernmost area in Sulawesi Island, has geo-economic advantages due to its proximity to Sam Ratulangi International Airport and Bitung Harbor, making it easy for tourists to access.

The government is developing the Likupang Tourism SEZ in three stages. The first stage is from 2020 to 2023, targeting to develop an area of 92.9 hectares or 47.1 percent of the total land area controlled. The total investment is estimated at Rp914 billion to build resorts, utilities, and commercial areas.
